Crown Timber was founded in 1983 and operates as a specialist just in time distributor of strength graded softwood and engineered wood products to the roof truss and timber frame manufacturing industries, as well as to timber and builders merchants.
Crown Timber purchases strength graded softwood from sawmills in Finland and Sweden, which is already kiln-dried, planed, strength graded, cut to length, packaged and fully wrapped. The timber is shipped from the ports of Hamina and Kalmar in vessels carrying full cargoes of Crown's products to the company's four distribution terminals in Scotland, Humberside, Southern England and Ireland.

The engineered wood products are manufactured by Boise Cascade of Idaho, USA and shipped to Crown Timber’s UK distribution terminals by barge or container services.
At these distribution terminals the softwood and engineered wood products are discharged and laid-out in Crown Timber’s purpose-designed storage areas for easy loading to vehicles and onward delivery to customers throughout the UK and Ireland. Each load called forward by a customer will specify a precise number of packs of a specific dimension, grade and length.
Any packs of softwood can be treated against insect or fungal infection, before delivery to customers, at the modern low pressure treatment plants located within each distribution terminal.
